Our Story · Est. 1884

140 years of banking like a neighbor.

For nearly 140 years, First National Bank and Trust has grown from a small hometown bank founded in 1884 in Long Island, Kansas into a network of five community-focused locations across north central Kansas, always with the same commitment to strengthening our communities.

01 · Our mission

Built on family, agriculture, and local trust.

What began with the Culbertson family serving local farmers has expanded to Phillipsburg, Logan, Smith Center, and Beloit, always with the same commitment to the people who make this ground go.

We continue to support our neighbors in every stage of life: from farms and businesses to personal financial goals. While our tools and technology have evolved, our mission remains unchanged, helping the people of our communities thrive.

Here for farmers. Here for businesses. Here for families. Here for you.

02 · The ledger

Nearly a century and a half, entry by entry.

1884

A hometown bank opens in Long Island

The Culbertson family founds a small bank to serve local farmers on the Kansas plains, the first entry in a very long ledger.

Banking the seasons

Through drought years and good ones, the bank stays with its farmers, structuring credit around the crop year, not a calendar.

Growth

Five towns, one handshake

The network expands to Phillipsburg, Logan, Smith Center, and Beloit, trading locally as First National Bank and Trust, Smith County Bank, and Solomon Valley Bank.

Today

Modern tools, hometown decisions

Mobile deposit, card controls, and digital banking meet the same people answering the phone, and loans still decided in town.

03 · Our family of banks

One family, three hometown names.

Across five branches we bank under three local charters, each name a neighbor in its own community.

05 · Relationship banking

Your banker lives down the road.

There's no call center and no committee three states away. When you bank with us, you get a real person who knows your operation, your family, and your goals, and who can make a decision right here in town.

Whether it's your first checking account or a multi-generational farm loan, we treat it like it matters. Because to your neighbors, it does.
